Firm Profile

Metcalf Hodges serves small to medium sized businesses, as well as high-net-worth individuals and entrepreneurs.  Whatever your industry, our brilliant team will offer a stunning service based on the principle of good listening, good understanding and good implementation.

The Firm was founded in 1964 when Richard D. Metcalf and Harvey H. Tebrich merged their individual CPA practices into a partnership, calling the Firm Metcalf & Tebrich. In 1979 the Firm’s name was changed to Metcalf, Hodges & Co. to recognize Ben Hodges' contribution to the Firm’s standing in the community. In November 1998, the Firm reorganized and the name was changed to Metcalf Hodges P.S.

From its inception, the Firm has continually endeavored to provide the highest quality of service in accounting, consulting and tax matters to all types and forms of businesses, not-for-profit organizations and individuals. Dick Metcalf set the highest standard for ethical business practices and service to others and instilled that in all who worked with him.

Metcalf Hodges achieves its superior level of client service by providing knowledge, technology and research resources to its team of highly-skilled CPA professionals.

For example, The Washington State Board of Accountancy requires an individual CPA to acquire 120 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) during each three-year CPA license renewal period.  However, Metcalf Hodges requires and purchases a minimum of 180 CPE course hours for each CPA involved in preparation of financial statements and many of the team members take significantly more  class hours than the minimum 180.

The information technology systems at Metcalf Hodges are continually being analyzed and upgraded to keep pace with the rapidly changing computer and telecommunications industries.  As new technologies become available, we enhance our systems to improve efficiency.

The Firm is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants (WSCPA). To attest to the Firm's commitment to the highest quality standards, the Firm voluntarily participates in regular peer reviews of firm policies and practices.

It isn’t easy being green, but we try.  In 2005, we began the transition to a “paperless office” in order to:

      • Reduce costs
      • Access information more quickly
      • Convert former storage space to other uses, and
      • Improve document security

Although we are not 100% paperless, our use of paper has decreased substantially.  With the help of cutting-edge technology including a document management system, scanners and skilled employees, we have cut our paper consumption in half, which keeps our costs and client fees lower and helps preserve the environment as well.
