IRS will not mail 2010 income tax forms

Since so many taxpayers file their federal income tax returns electronically, the IRS will no longer mail tax forms and instructions starting next year.  According to a Washington Post report, the IRS estimates that savings will be around $10 million a year when mailings are eliminated.

The IRS advises people who want to file paper tax returns to obtain the forms from the IRS website, local IRS offices, libraries and post offices.  The absence of mailed tax forms is not a valid reason for failure to file a tax return, according to the agency.
