Reporting the cost of employer-sponsored group health plan coverage on Forms W-2 is required for certain employers beginning in 2012.  Reporting is optional for all employers in 2011 to allow more time for updating payroll systems.  This reporting requirement does not mean the benefits shown on Form W-2 will be taxable to the employee.  For details and exceptions click on the IRS link: Health Coverage Reporting Requirements.
