Voter-approved local sales and use tax increase coming soon for Bellingham, WA

A combined state and local sales and use tax of 8.7% goes into effect on April 1, 2011 for taxable purchases made in the City of Bellingham.  Back in November, 2010 Bellingham voters approved the establishment of a Transportation Benefit District (TBD) along with a local sales tax increase to support it.  Therefore, sales and use tax applied within the city limits increases two-tenths of one percent (.002).  This tax will be used for transportation funding.  More information about Washington State and municipalities sales and use tax rates can be found at the Washington State Department of Revenue website.
