Ron Bauleke

CPA

Ron Bauleke’s beginnings were steeped in the soil and labor of farm life. Born on a farm (in Minnesota), his family moved to a ranch (a chicken ranch in Southern California) when he was three. To avoid the daily chores amongst the chickens, at an early age he started to play basketball, which has been a life long passion.

During a summer break from high school, Ron’s father, a part time carpenter, conscripted him to help build a house. As a result of this experience, he began college at Berkeley wanting to be an architect. However he found it difficult to devote the necessary time to both the basketball court and the calculus books. As a result, he had the privilege of working for the U. S. government, as was the custom in the 1960's. Ron spent a year in Germany, where he learned to ski, and a year in Southeast Asia, where he learned the value of human life.

Obtaining a college degree became a higher priority after being in the service. He received his degree in economics at Lewis and Clark College and upon graduation, discovered this was not the most employable of degrees. So it was night school and accounting classes for the next couple of years. Ron first worked for a C.P.A. firm in Central Oregon, moving to Bellingham in 1978 (with a toddler and a pregnant wife) to work in a local accounting firm where he had more accessibility to sailing.

1983 was the year Ron took up the challenge of starting his own C.P.A. practice which, despite his best intentions, grew over the years to include twelve people. Although being a managing partner has its own rewards and satisfactions, Ron realized he prefers doing - working directly with clients. He finds greater satisfaction in working through challenging accounting questions and tax issues. Metcalf Hodges offered him the opportunity to leave the managing to others so he could give the kind of quality service to his clients for which he has become so well known and respected over the last twenty years in Bellingham.

Ron and his wife, Cindy, have gratefully achieved an empty nest. Their daughter, Sara, is self employed and living in the Washington D.C area. Their son, Brett moved to San Diego after graduating from Western Washington University and inherited his father’s appreciation for basketball and snowboarding. Cindy is a minister of the United Church of Christ. Along the way they have switched from sailing to power boating, and thrive on the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Both are active in the community. Ron currently serves on the Whatcom Coalition for Healthy Communities Board, formerly known as the Community Health Partnership. He can often be seen running the trails and roads of Bellingham or on his bicycle trying to keep up with the “youngsters” on the Saturday morning “Donut Run”.
